West Orange Eruv
The Dr. and Mrs. Walter Feder Memorial West Orange Eruv
The Dr. and Mrs. Walter Feder Memorial West Orange Eruv is dedicated by Roz Feder Lipsky and Marvin Lipsky in memory of Roz’s parents A’H.
Dr. Walter Feder A’H received semicha from Yeshiva University and was a practicing cardiologist in Brooklyn. He established the CCU at Maimonides Medical Center, where he was Chairman of Cardiology for many years before becoming an attending physician there. Mrs. Cecile Salwen Feder A’H was the first Head of Stern College, and later a Mathematics Professor at Brooklyn College They were involved in many Jewish organizations and causes, including Soviet Jewry, the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists and others. They each benefited from the wonderful Bikur Cholim of the West Orange and Livingston communities when they stayed in area health care facilities. The family is dedicating the Eruv with Hakarat Hatov for the communities’ wonderful chesed, and to pay it forward for those who will need these facilities in the future. May their neshamot have an aliya.
The West Orange Eruv was first erected on April 15, 1983 under the leadership of Rabbi Alvin M. Marcus, Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation AABJ&D, and Rabbi Hillel Horowitz, Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation Beth Israel, with the halakhic guidance of Rabbi Shimon Eider Z”L of Lakewood, NJ.
The Eruv is currently under the Rabbinic Authority of Rabbi Eliezer Zwickler of Congregation AABJ&D and Rabbi Marc Spivak of Congregation Ohr Torah. The Eruv is maintained and checked weekly by Rabbi Michah Shotkin . For queries, comments, or to volunteer in any capacity, please contact info@westorangeeruv.org.
You may check the Eruv status by dialing the West Orange Eruv Hotline at (973) 736-1407 Ext. 234 on Friday afternoon. Additionally, if the eruv has been checked and is functional for Shabbat there will be an “E” hanging from the sign of Congregation AABJ&D, 700 Pleasant Valley Way.
